Advanced Professional Diploma
A specialist track and an applied dissertation, for people who have completed the Professional Diploma and want depth in one domain rather than breadth across twelve. Four tracks, each built around what a particular job actually requires.
Common core, then one track
Sixty hours of common core — research methods for metals, data sources and their reliability, writing for a professional audience, and professional conduct and the advice boundary in depth. Then ninety hours in a single elective track, and a 6,000 to 8,000 word applied dissertation on a question in your own market, with an oral defence.
Entry requires the Professional Diploma. The combined ceiling across all four tiers is deliberately held below $2,500.
The four tracks
- A · Assay & Authentication Practice — for assayers, hallmarking centre staff, refiners and lab technicians. Fire assay in depth, instrument calibration and validation, lab quality management, uncertainty budgets, method validation.
- B · Retail, Valuation & Lending Practice — for jewellers, appraisers, gold-loan and pawn staff. Valuation methodology, writing a defensible appraisal, loan-to-value and lender requirements, collateral practice, retail ethics.
- C · Markets, Investment & Advisory Practice — for dealers, wealth managers, family offices and analysts. Advanced market structure, portfolio research and its limits, correlation behaviour under stress, client communication under uncertainty.
- D · Compliance, AML & Responsible Sourcing — for compliance officers and auditors. Programme design, audit readiness, OECD implementation, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring for metals.
Why a dissertation
Because at this level the useful skill is no longer answering a question somebody else set. It is choosing a question worth answering in your own market, finding the evidence, and being honest about what the evidence will not support. That is the difference between somebody who has completed a course and somebody an employer can put in front of a client.
